The Media Tribe - one place that is constantly producing some of the most prominent talents in the Music Industry
The Media Tribe - Institute of Sound Engineering and Music Production is one place that has produced a Grammy Award Winner, a Mirchi Award Winner and IRAA (Indian Recording Arts Academy awards Winners) in the last five years.
The Institute is founded by legendary producer/mixer and entrepreneur Ashish Manchanda, whose credit range from Bruce Sweden, Garth Brooks, A R Rahman, Amit Trivedi, Ranjit Barot, Lesle Lewis, Vishal-Shekhar, Pritam, Clinton Cerejo to some of the most prominent projects like MTV Coke Studio, MTV Unplugged, VH1 Storytellers (New York), Chronicles of Narnia.
The students at The Media Tribe go through a rigorous course curriculum and an intense training program which is designed to get them ready for the music industry. Their recent success story from 2023, Darshan Desai, is a young engineer producer from Hyderabad who’s still studying at The Media Tribe and has already gotten placed at Oscar Winning composer A R Rahman’s studio facility in Mumbai. In the first week itself, Darshan worked on Rahman’s PS2 movie and assisted in the recording sessions for Armaan Malik and veteran singer Hariharan.
The institute focuses on real-world education, and hence, students of The Media Tribe have been a part of some of the most prominent projects in the Indian Music Industry.
Earlier this year, about four students worked on COKE STUDIO BHARAT, the latest offering from Coke Studio brand. The institute ensures that the students understand the work ethic and the culture of the music industry, and acquire the necessary skills and etiquette that is required in the music industry. TMT’s Principal Faculty Aman Moroney wrote the arrangements while co-producing the episode with Ashish Manchanda. The string parts were transcribed by current TMT student Gaurang Deshpande, hailing from Nagpur, where he got to experience the process of how orchestral parts could be written and engineered.
The Media Tribe also has a very close association with the historic Prithvi Theatre in Juhu (Mumbai). The Media Tribe students have been a part of more than 100 concerts and theatre productions as recording and mix engineers.
Here are some of the most prominent TMT alumni’s who are currently working in the Music Industry.
Earlier this year, TMT’s alumni Gibson George and Abhijeet Srivastava won Indian Recording Arts Academy Awards for Best Music Producer in the category of Electronic Music. Both Gibson and Abhijeet were classmates at The Media Tribe in 2015-16 and collaborated closely on their assignments. Their latest project is a Dharma Productions Movie where Abhijeet has composed the music, and Gibson is producing the record.
Last year, TMT’s alumni and ex-Flying Carpet Productions Producer Lionel Crasta was a part of a Grammy Winning Record by Rufus Du Sol, written and produced by Jason Evigan. Today, Lionel works closely with Jason Evigan at Chumba Music in Los Angeles, California.
Aman Arakh, a Bhopal based sound engineer and music producer, has been instrumental in working with some of the local talents from Bhopal and making sure they sound global. Aman is an IRAA Winner as well, for his work with Saby Singh.
Ritwik Shah, a recording and mix engineer from Bengaluru, has worked closely with Sunny MR and Arijit Singh. Shah also has toured North America and the UK with Arijit Singh.
Edison Soans , a multi-talented engineer and musician has been a part of some of the finest concerts and events in India. His credits include MTV Coke Studio, MTV Unplugged and recently, he was a part of the engineering team at the NMACC (Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre) in Mumbai.
Aniruddha Purushe got to be a part of live sound teams at Prithvi Theatre while assisting FOH engineer for ALIF during his early days at TMT. Today, Purushe has travelled a good part of the world with his work on cruise ships as well as engineering concerts for Alif, Janvi Shrimankar, Daira and theatre productions by legendary director Sunil Shanbag.
Akash Chauhan, a young producer and engineer, has been a part of The Local Train’s upcoming movie soundtrack with Lucky Ali, where he got to assist in the recording and mix sessions for the song.
Omkar Jadhav, a live sound engineer and a system-tech has worked closely with Amit Trivedi in his earlier days in the industry, and got to work with Backstreet Boys for their latest live concert in Mumbai.
